Due to some graffiti writers demands, Municipality of Nantes, as many others municipalities already did, started to "give" them walls for "legal graffiti" practice. These walls are open to everybody with a few conditions. Each and every person writing on this wall would need:
- the authorization given to them by the Municipality.
- the signed charter concerning the "no politics, religious or explicits contents" and then explain the project to eventual viewers passing by.
- give them each a painter identity.
This project, launched by some of the writers themselves, was a real success. They were very happy to be able to expose themselves by painting downtown, without getting into trouble. This movement from the underground sphere toward municipal control interrogated me. The writers' lack of political conscience did as well.
I decided to go and get that authorisation myself to make a "definition-piece" (with stolen materials)

La Ville de Nantes a commencé depuis peu (et cela à l'initiative de graffeurs) à "ouvrir" des murs pour la pratique du "graffiti legal". Ces murs sont ouverts à tout le monde avec comme seul impératif, de se procurer une autorisation. Cette autorisation n'est délivré que contre la signature d'une charte concernant la nature des contenus des peintures (ni politiques, ni religieuses, ni à caractère violent ou sexuel), et surtout contre l'identité de chaque personne qui va peindre sur le mur. Le principe fait fureur, et les graffeurs s'empressent de venir s'afficher sur ces lieux. Ce glissement dans la sphère "culturelle municipale" me pose question; le degrés de conscience politique des graffeurs aussi.
Je decide moi-même d'aller chercher une autorisation pour réaliser une peinture-définition (avec de la peinture volée).
